Running on Empty
I'm back in 65-80 hour a week mode, a way of life I thought I had left behind in 2005. I'm working my regular 40-45/hr week job, and then I've been freelancing, working another 25-35 hours a week on a project that I hope will end within the next week or two because I'm so tired when I'm not getting paid to work, I make a sloth look energetic.
Nonetheless, I'm glad to have the extra money coming in. There's a summer weekend on the Eastern Shore for my little family (including Innana) at a rustic summer camp-type place that I need to pay for, and, heck, I need to get a permanent crown on a molar that has had temporary crown for almost a year. There are other expenditures as well: medical bills, musical instrument rental for TG, DestructoGirl's preschool next year, miscellaneous medical bills, and, heck, I need to stock up on some wine.
But really, this is good for a few weeks once a year, but more than that? Not good. It's been three weeks of non-stop work, and I haven't had time to take a walk, play the guitar, cook a nice meal, really read a book, or do anything (except for a long weekend in NC visiting DOL, which was very nice). If I didn't need to pay ahead on things for the girls and pay medical bills, there's no way this schedule would be conceivable, much less justifiable.

Hear ya. I'm past the time in my life when I can pull that sort of thing off. But stocking up on wine is as good a motivation/justification as any for working the extra hours.
Bon courage.
Yeah, it's tough!
But when you end up basking in the sun, when you're camping with your family & friends it really will be worth it & those meories will far outweigh the slog you're going through now.
Laurita: I actually got a Rioja and a Chianti (good times) for the weekend. I'm working tomorrow, but tomorrow night, it's out on the patio with a glass of red.
Bunny: Absolutely. It's in a good cause, and I need to get ahead a bit (or at least not fall behind) so I'm glad of the chance.
[said in a sonorous, wise voice] "As we approach this time in our lives, we must be cautious so as not to burn a candle at both ends."
Ah, what the heck -- kids, wine and the beach are worth it! Stay strong!!
As everyone else is saying, it's not as if you're doing it for no reason, the payoff will be worth it when you guys are chilling on the beach.
Ms. Peg: Oh, and happy 60th! Thanks, and yeah, getting to the beach (Chesapeake Bay-side) with my girls (without relying on someone else to treat me) really is worth it.
Cookiedear: You're absolutely right. Of course, I'm very happy that tonight (about 1 hr ago) I delivered the finished product, and I have no more extra work for a good while. I'd like to make even more money, but I can't keep that pace up indefinitely.
