What Dreams Might Come
Almost as much as I hate insomnia (and yes, tonight will be an Ambien night), I hate weird/bad dreams. Right now I'm being troubled by a dream of spiders. Really. I hate spiders. They don't threaten or anything, they just spin huge, beautiful webs and then hang out. The part of the dream I remember involves me going out to the garage (I don't have a garage) to get something, finding it, and then turning to leave and discovering that my way is blocked by enormous spiderwebs with enormous spiders residing therein.
It's not an Arachnaphobia-type dream -- I'm not afraid of being poisoned or eaten by the spiders. It is, however, a deeply unpleasant dream. This morning the dream ended when I somehow, in the dream, decided that exit from the garage was not possible and made a bedroll with some conveniently located (isn't that a great feature of dreams? Stuff just turns up.) pile of blankets and lay down to sleep under a cloud of spiderwebs.

I'd rather have a spider nightmare than one wherein my 11 yr old daughter is raped and pregnant. Yeah, I had that one last week, woke up in the middle of the night and never went back to sleep. I have no idea what triggered it (probably related to that year as a DSS worker), but I think I've never had a worse nightmare in my LIFE.
Oh, and before I forget, my old email address doesn't work. I haven't set up a new one on my new net service, but I have one from long ago that still works if you ever need to contact me: kiraln@msn.com. Hmmm...that reminds me...I need to let Cookie know that too. I guess I can Facebook him.
That's ok, i know now.
Kira: Yup, your dream is worse. Thanks for the new email. Oh, v. v. bad news: Picpoul de Pinet is on special (at the wonderful Calvert Woodley Wine & Liquor) for $7.99 -- last year it was $6.99. Bummer. I still bought a bottle.
CookieDear: Good, you got Kira's new email. Good talking with you also.
The Picpoul de Pinet went up to $9.99 at our store, so it could be worse! Basically, right after they received an 88 from a major wine magazine (I think Wine Spectator), they knew they could charge more because the world found out what a great bargain it is. So, with my discount, I can still get it for $6.99...but I should have been able to get it at $4.90 with my discount. Grrr. Now, if you want to know some pleasant, drinkable wines still in the $5.99 to $6.99 range, for a red I recommend my latest cheap find: Castellana Montepulciano D'abruzzo, 2008, at $6.99. For a white, I was surprised at how drinkable the Mendoza Torrontes was at $5.99. Yes, I like the Picpoul de Pinet better, but still--cheap and good is excellent to find.
(oh, and that's the prices in our store BEFORE my discount, so it should be around what you pay)

Spiders have some interesting connotations in dreams apparently. Rewards, creativity, feminine power. Pretty cool stuff. But I totally understand waking up unsettled from an odd dream.
Hmmm. Lemons from lemonade, maybe?
I don't remember my dreams much, but I had one a week or so ago where I was crawling in an ever-constricting tunnel with a bunch of other people. I reached the point where I was questioning whether I ought to reverse course (and make the line behind me back up as well) or risk getting caught in the tunnel.
Then I woke up.
Kira: When I get back to the land where I pay for my own wine (Thank you Big Grampa and Ludmila)I'll look for the Castellana Montepulciano D'Abruzzo and the Mendoza Torrantes. Calvert-Woodley has pretty good prices and specials, so we'll see. Thanks for mentioning them.
TC: Interesting, thanks. The dream was somewhat negative, but not terrifying. I had assumed it was a bad omen dream (not that I believe in omens), but now I'll reinterpret it a bit.
Wunelle: Waking up is normally something I'm not to fond of, but some dreams do make it a blessing.
